Supabase
Open-source Postgres backend with auth and storage
Supabase is an open-source backend platform built around Postgres, used by developers and teams building web and mobile applications who want managed infrastructure without being locked into a single vendor. It packages the pieces a backend typically needs into one connected project.
Every project starts from a dedicated Postgres database with auto-generated REST and GraphQL APIs, a table editor, a SQL editor, and dozens of preinstalled extensions, including pgvector for storing embeddings. Authentication supports email and password, phone one-time codes, magic links, and social login providers, with row-level security in Postgres controlling access. Realtime subscriptions push database changes to connected clients, S3-compatible object storage handles files and images across many regions, and edge functions written in TypeScript run serverless logic close to users.
Because the stack is open source, a project can be self-hosted instead of run on Supabase's infrastructure. Hosted plans include a free tier for getting started plus paid tiers that add resources, support, and compliance options such as SOC2 Type 2, scaling up to custom enterprise agreements.
