Railway is an infrastructure platform that deploys and runs applications, databases, and background jobs without requiring manual server setup. It is aimed at developers and teams, including those directing AI coding agents, who want to ship a project from source code straight to a running service.
A user points Railway at a source repository or a template, and the platform detects the language, builds the project, and handles networking and monitoring for the resulting service, with a Dockerfile available to override the automatic build. Resources are organized into workspaces, projects, environments, and services, and deployments can scale horizontally with replicas or vertically with added CPU and memory. Managed Postgres, MySQL, Redis, MongoDB, and ClickHouse databases are available alongside persistent volumes, private networking between services, and public domains with automatic TLS.
Billing is usage-based: a free tier and a low-cost Hobby tier include a monthly usage credit for small projects, a Pro tier suits production workloads with pooled credits across a workspace, and an Enterprise tier adds contractual service agreements, single sign-on, and dedicated support. Stopped services are not charged.
