Metabase is an open-source business intelligence platform that lets organizations query, visualize and share data without requiring deep technical expertise. It is used by data teams building self-service analytics, non-technical staff exploring data on their own, and software companies embedding analytics into their own products.
People can explore data through a visual query builder, a SQL editor for advanced users, or an AI assistant called Metabot that answers questions in natural language and can generate SQL. Dashboards support filtering and drill-down, a Data Studio feature lets teams build a governed semantic layer of shared tables and metrics, and an embedded analytics SDK lets the same charts and dashboards appear inside another application. It connects to more than 40 data sources, including Snowflake, BigQuery, PostgreSQL and MongoDB, and every AI-generated answer can be inspected down to the underlying query.
Metabase can be self-hosted for free as open-source software with unlimited users, or run as Metabase Cloud with a 14-day free trial that needs no card. Paid Starter, Pro and Enterprise plans add support, permissions, single sign-on and other administrative features, billed monthly with additional per-user charges above an included seat count.
