Khan Academy is a nonprofit online education platform built to give anyone, anywhere, access to a free education. It serves learners from early childhood through college preparation, along with the teachers, parents and school districts who support them, offering courses in math, science, English language arts, social studies, economics, computing, life skills and test preparation.
Lessons pair short videos with practice exercises that adapt to what a learner already knows, and a companion app, Khan Academy Kids, extends the approach to younger children. Khan Academy Districts gives schools tools and support to adopt the platform system-wide, and Khanmigo, an AI tutor, offers personalized help to students and lesson-planning assistance to teachers. Khan Academy states that district partners see students become six times more likely to reach recommended practice levels, and that the platform has reached 227 million registered users across more than 190 countries in over 55 languages.
The platform itself is entirely free, with no ads and no paid tier. Khan Academy is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that relies on donations to fund its work rather than charging the students, families and schools who use it.
