Midjourney is an AI image generator that turns written text prompts into original images. It is used by illustrators, designers, marketers and hobbyists who want to explore visual ideas quickly, typing a description of a scene or subject and receiving a finished image rather than searching for an existing one.
Midjourney was originally accessed only through a bot on Discord, where a person types an instruction such as slash-imagine along with a prompt and receives four image variations within about a minute, then can upscale a favorite or generate further variations from it. A separate web-based editor later added the same generation tools alongside panning, zooming, region variation and inpainting in a single interface, along with parameters that adjust aspect ratio, model version and other settings.
There is no free tier: access requires a monthly or annual subscription across four plans, Basic, Standard, Pro and Mega, priced from about ten dollars a month up to about one hundred twenty, with annual billing priced lower than paying month to month. Higher tiers add more image-generation time and features such as a private, stealth generation mode, and every plan carries commercial usage rights for the resulting images.
